Rice a la Malta – Ris a la Malta

This is a classic Swedish winter dessert, it’s based of a rice-oatmeal that’s boiled with milk. It’s heavy, yet sweet and delicious. The base is similar to a rice pudding.

Denna klassiska vinter dessert är baserad på risgrynsgröt. Den är ganska mastig, men söt och god!

Recipe / Recept 

1 cup of white, round rice / 2.5 dl grötris

2 cups of water / 5 dl vatten

1 tsp of salt / 1 tsk salt 

3.4 cups of whole milk / 8 dl mjölk

1 tbsp of butter / 1 msk smör

3 tbsp of sugar / 3 msk socker

1 cup of cream / 2.5 dl grädde

2 tsp of vanilla sugar / 2 tsk vaniljsocker 

3 fresh oranges / 3 apelsiner 

1. Start with making the rice pudding. Boil the rice in water, milk and salt until rice is cooked. / Börja med att koka gröten. Koka riset i vatten, mjölk och salt.

2. Stir in the butter. / Rör i smöret.

3. Let cool. / Låt svalna helt.

4. Filet the oranges. / Filéa apelsinerna.

5. Whisk the cream until it’s firm. / Vispa grädden tills den är fast.

6. Mix the rice with the cream and sugars. / Blanda gröten med grädden, socker och vaniljsocker.

7. Cut some of the oranges in smaller pieces and mix into the rice. / Skär några apelsiner i mindre bitar och blanda ner i gröten.

8. Done! / Klart!
